During my four years at this great school, I have many times been asked “What is a Hokie.” This is always a question that people ask during football season, and when we are welcoming our incoming students to school every spring and summer. At the same time, it is a question that everyone here at Tech knows the answer to instinctively:

I am a Hokie

Now, more than ever, we are all Hokies.
We are strong, and we will prevail.

And to all our fallen and injured Hokies: we will always love you all.

To the families and friends of the fallen students & Professors, you are in our thoughts and prayers. May God guide you through this very difficult time. God Bless You All at Virginia-Tech.

Challenge to move forward
Without challenge, there would be no achievement. If you wish to own the achievement, you must be willing to shoulder the challenge.
Working through a difficult challenge builds strength. It is a kind of strength that cannot be acquired in any other way.

Challenges are messy, uncomfortable, complicated and demanding. And yet, they are among life’s greatest blessings.

For the challenges will make it perfectly clear what has real meaning in your life and what doesn’t. The challenges hold your priorities up to you and will show you the best of who you are.

Climbing the mountain of challenge is difficult and treacherous, yet the view from the summit is spectacular. And the experience you gain in the effort will continue to bring value long after the work is done.

You are truly fortunate to have challenges in your life. For within every challenge is a clearly defined path for moving vigorously and meaningfully forward.

Our thoughts and prayers are offered to the enitre Virginia Tech community.  We felt the strong sense of community when we visited there last fall and this is why Virgina Tech is Rebecca’s first choice for admission Fall 2007.  We still feel the same sense of love and kinship amongst the student and faculty in your school.  We admire this so much.  Healing will take so much time but together the Virgina Tech family will mend hour by hour, day by day.

Our best wishes,

I would like to take this time to share my condolences and deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the victims, as well as to the University itself and the students/faculty/staff who witnessed the terrible tragedy.  I cannot express how saddened I am by this.  To the families/friends of the professors and students who tried with heroic measures to protect the others, words will never be able to touch how special these people were and how amazingly brave they were and are.  May God bless you all in your time of mourning and grief...My family is praying for you!

“We Are Virginia Tech”
for Nikki Giovanni

From Blacksburg poetry rises from this hour
of grief that shrouds the Blue Ridge Mountain plain
with students, faculty, and parents whose pain
drives language to break sound barriers and flower
in the compost of despair.  The power
of metaphor wraps round this tragic stain
defined by blood and writ through time since Cain
committed the first murder that tells our
story.  The exponents of flesh explode
in memory.  Names, faces dissolve through
a holocaust of tears.  Recorded dust
forms into prayer and breaks into an ode
called out from the campus bard who knew
how to bring us back to words we trust.

My thoughts and prayers join the thousands that have taken wing toward our Heavenly Father on behalf of the families and friends of the victims of this horrible atrocity. I am also praying for all fellow students, the faculty, and administration who, while thankful for every life spared, are devastated by loss and confusion. I do not believe that time HEALS all wounds, but I do believe that it does and will lessen the pain.

This is another day, O Lord.  I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be.  If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely.  If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly.  If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently.  And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly.  Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus.  Amen.

I would like to express my sincere condolences for the tragedy that has befallen the campus and the community of students, teachers, and parents at Virgina Tech.  It saddens my heart that such things can happen in this great and wonderful country that we call home.  As an Aggie, I understand the sense of pride and love one feels for one’s university and the sadness one feels when something terrible is brought upon it.  I know in my heart that with time and healing, Virginia Tech will rise up and meet the challenges that lay before it.  With love and hope.

As a father with a daughter who is a freshman at Wake Forest University, the tragedy at Virginia Tech has really hit hard. The faces and stories of the students who were taken and those who were injured will haunt me for years.

I humbly offer my very deepest condolences to the families of all of those students. As a parent, it is a loss for which there are no words, and it is a loss of innocence for all of us.

My prayers go out to all of the victims, their families, and friends. I do not have the words to describe the sorrow that I have over this event.  As an alum of VT I can imagine the joy of being a student on our beautiful campus.  As a former professor I can imagine the joy of teaching our young and leading the education process.  As a parent I can imagine the joy of raising ones sons and daughters to adulthood.  To see so much joy extinguished in such a senseless and selfish manner is simply overwhelmingly.  I pray that those most closely touched by this event find the strength and courage to move forward.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kyle Potocki ‘87

My heart and prayers are with every person that has to suffer this tragedy. Almost a year and a half ago I lost four of my best friends to a shooting. They were all shot and killed on dec.13,2005 while they were making music in there recording studio. Ever since that night I have been asking myself WHY!!WHY!!WHY!!. These kids were doing nothing wrong It was a senseless act that killed all my friends and the students at Virginia Tech. The hardest question to deal with is asking yourself Why. You will never find out the reason. The only thing you can do is pray and let there lives live through you. Time will heal all wounds it will feel like your life is over and no matter what anyone says nothin will help, but with time things do get better.  My prayers are with you all. I can’t stop thinking about you guys. The good die young its a fact. May all the students be in Gods hands. May God be with you all.

Just Remember
If tomorrow should come and I don`t open my eyes.
If the angels rush down to be by my side.
No tears should you shed for I`m on my way.
To the paridise of heaven this peaceful day.
If the smile you have can`t hide the pain.
If the tears in your eyes start to flow like the rain.
Please remember my laughter, and the joy that we shared.
Remember that I love you and I will always be there.
And if you start to wonder why God chose me.
To be the one who`s soul he set free.
Just remember the time I was here on this earth.
And you`ll realize my life lived up to its worth.
For if I helped ease just one person`s pain.
Then my time here on earth was not taken in vain.
So hold on to my memory and never let it go.
As I look down from heaven I want you to know.
I lived a good life and its known to be true.
My life was so wonderful because I was blessed to have you.
