Condolences, April 18, 2007

I’m so sad for the families and friends of the Hokies, who were called Home, much too soon.  They are angels now, looking down, and watching over all of you. I know the coverage of this seems to be relentless, but it’ll be over soon.  It’s giving the rest of the world a glimpse of these wonderful people, and who they were.  My heart goes out to you, and you’re in my prayers.

May God bless you, and give you peace.
Go Hokies!

My family is originally from Roanoke, and we now live south of Richmond, so Va Tech has always been a special place for us.  My brother attended school there, and my niece and nephew are both graduates of Va Tech.  My 15 year old daughter wants to attend school there also. It is difficult to find any words to express our profound sorrow and grief for the students and professors who were lost in this senseless and horrible tragedy.  We are praying for their families, the Va Tech students, the
administration and the Blacksburg community.  Please know that everyone is in our thoughts and prayers and we share your loss.  The Va Tech community is strong, and we pray that God will bless us all and help us heal!

I, along with my family, wish to express our deep sympathy over the tragic events of this week. It is unbelievable that anyone could create such devastation to so many lives. I have prayed and cried as I am sure many have and I am still in shock that this has happened, and so close to home. I will continue to keep in my prayers all the family, friends and loved ones affected by their terrible loss, and also for the recovering victims and their families. I am sure the surviving victims will never forget what they saw that day and I pray for them to have the strength to get through it.God Bless you all and may he give you the strength and guidance you will need in the days to come. This shooting was shoking and filled my heart with anger, and grief. Each new story of loss is a heart wrenching reminder of the preciousness of every human life.

I pray that God will bless VT’s staff, students and all families who have now lost loved ones.

I also hope that this serves as a lesson for the rest of us.  We need to learn to apreciate and to enjoy life, rether than distroying it.

Psalms 34:17-19: “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18: “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our inner strength in the Lord is growing every day. These troubles and sufferings of ours are, after all, quite small and won’t last very long. Yet this short time of distress will result in God’s richest blessing upon us forever and ever! So we do not look at what we can see right now, the troubles all around us, but we look forward to the joys in heaven which we have not yet seen. The troubles will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.”

May God Bless all of you and know that your whole country is praying for you.

All Virginiaians are proud of Virginia Tech.  In addition to the feelings of grief over the devastating waste of so many promising young lives, and the lives of those who made a career of shaping and developing that promise, we are infuriated that a madman would turn a school with such a proud heritage and turn it into the site of the worst mass murder in American history.  I have faith that the faculty and students of Virginia Tech can draw upon the independent and proud spirit that is Virginia and not allow a murdering madman to forever define Virigina Tech as the scene of this tragedy.  Virginia Tech can and will write its own legacy, and it will be one not of horror and carnage, but of strength, resilience and courage.  We carry you all in our prayers.
