Condolences, April 18, 2007

My brother is an Alumni of Tech and from his time there I too grew to love the place.I also went to school with many people that went on to college there and to my knowledge they are all okay. I am in Savannah studying at SCAD and there are many of us here from Virginia who have been affected by the news;we’re in the process of holding a vidil on Monday.
To everyone affected by this tragedy,you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have no prior connection to the state of Virginia, Blacksburg, or Virginia Tech, nor am I one to typically express my emotions, but my heart feels heavy at the senseless loss of good people.  Answers may not exist to the questions that remain, but I hope that those closest to this tragedy- families and friends of the victims, may be able to be comforted by the good lives which these people led.  Please know that America mourns with you, even strangers from the other end of the nation.

As a mother of 2 of my 4 children living on a university campus right now, I know that this tragedy could have happened to any of us, on any campus in this country or in the world.
As a mother, I cannot imagine having to try to endure the loss of a child under any circumstances - to lose a son or daughter at the hands and guns of a young killer is a terror that strikes like a torpedo to the heart and soul of those now devasted and diminishes those of us now bearing witness.
As a human being, I mourn for each of us - tears running down our cheeks - as we watch this tragedy unfold in the media.  How many more innocent lives will be lost and families shattered by madmen brandishing guns purchased in local gun stores before we all scream “ENOUGH”?
My heart swells with grief for the victims and for those who knew and loved them.  For all the rest of us who will soon be welcoming our students home into our arms again, well, we know we are truly the lucky ones—this time.

My heart goes out to all the families of the dead and injured students and faculty. It just doesn’t make any sense. They need to out-law guns in the United States like in other countries so senseless acts like this cannot occur.You are all in my prayers. Those students memories will live on in my heart and in the hearts of the surviving students and faculty of VA Tech. My neighbor across the street (a Va Tech graduate) has this Big Va Tech flag flying from his fence right now.  I wish I could take a picture of it and post it here.  Go Hokies!  I will continue to pray. As a native Kansan,and a KU graduate I never imagined having contact with anyone from VT.  How small has our world got.  My prayers go out to all those that have been affected by this horrible event.  My youngest brother (19) is going to Fort Lewis, WA.  He was supposed to be stationed in NC with a Ranger unit.  The ARMY seen otherwise and gave him his orders.  He is now a member of the Striker team, ie, ied detection device.  He will deploy to Iraq in a few weeks.  Im sick and tired of seeing the ones I love die, couldnt take my brother.  Thats just my way of dealing, it scares the hell out of me that this could happen outside of our war on terror.  God bless George Bush for his comments today, he does love VT and this country.  Students at VT, hold your heads high, say your prayers, and thank those that helped you be safe.

My heart and my prayers are with all the students, staff and family members of those at Virginia Tech. I feel I am deeply connected in a special way to all of you. May God grant you the strength and peace of heart that only He can bestow upon us. I am praying for you every day asking God to console,comfort and give you strength. Never lose faith, hope and do not fear. Trust in God because those that care and love will always outnumber those that will try to deny us of those beautiful and great gifts that God pours out to us everyday. Scars may remain but only God can heal our hearts.
Psalm 34 says:

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;
16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;

Words cannot begin to express my most sincere condoleances to all of the families of the victims, the school staff and the students of VT.  Nothing I can say or do can reverse time or take your pain away.  However you should know that all of Canada is as shocked and sadden by these horrifying events, and we are all thinking of you. Remember those who’s life was taken away so abruptly, so early… You must keep them alive in your hearts and your memories.  May you stay strong for yourself and your close ones left behind with you.
