Saying that I am sad is an understatement. I had tears in my eyes as I heard the developing story over the past two days. I have friends on faculty at Virginia Tech, have friends who graduated from Virginia Tech and my friends’ children are currently studying at Virginia Tech. My own daughter will shortly be attending University. I can’t help but personalize this tragedy of monumental proportions.

Greatness of human beings lies in look forward, putting unpleasant experiences behind. Remember, out of ashes begins new life. Let us make it bright.

My heart is breaking for the loss of so many young and innocent spirits. I lost a dear friend several months ago and I wrote this poem to help me cope with the saddness. I hope it can help someone else in a small way. You are all in our prayers.

I Think

I think God needs her joyfull spirit,
To help him guide the lost,
To shine for us on darkest days,
But for this there is a cost.

I think God knows her Golden heart
Should be used for bigger things,
A Heart that full of Love for all,
Deserves a set of wings.

I think Giod left her brilliant smile,
In our hearts for all to see,
Her laughter twinkles everywhere,
As it dances on the breeze.

I think God left our memories full
Of the good times that we had,
To call upon when times get tough,
With warmth that makes us glad.

I think I’ll see my friend again,
In my dreams, or when I’m gone,
Standing there to welcome me,
With her Wings and Smile on.

It seems that the loneliness of a troubled soul has visited with its devastating violence.  What can we say? May our sorrow reach out to you across the seas, fellow students, teachers, and families.  Only distance separates us really as we imagine your great loss and grief.

To all of you touched by this profound and senseless tragedy, my heart is aching for you. My prayers and thoughts are with you. May you all find solace and comofort amongst your fellow alum and within the community. Know that many around the world are wishing an expedient return to some normalcy. May your healing process begin, and may your friends and loved ones always be remembered and cherished in memory. As a college graduate and now an airline employee, I know what it’s like to share in the whole bonding experience at school. I also know what it’s like to lose friends and loved ones in a senseless tragedy, meaning 9/11, when I lost colleagues and close friends. It felt like someone had invaded my home and violated my sense of security. So again, my thoughts and prayers are with you. God Bless

My husband and I are both alum, attend football games with our children regularly, and have a great fondness and love for Tech and Blacksburg.  There are no words to describe the anguish and loss that we feel for the entire Hokie family and for the loss of innocence associated w/this travesty.  Our hearts ache.  Blacksburg has always been a haven for many of us during and after our college years.  We are all united by our Tech bonds, will grieve together, and will come together. God Bless the students, families, faculty, and alumni who are touched by this and everyone who will be touched by this through indirect acquaintances all over the state of Virginia and afar. We are proud to be Hokies and will wear our colors with a new sense of pride for some time to come.

I join my family at Marist College in mourning the loss of so many members of your family, VT...senseless violence like this is such a wake up call to our entire nation, a reminder that life is so unpredictable and we often live best when living by the cliche that our time could honestly end at any moment.  I pray to God that all of you will find the strength to grow though these dark times and rise out of your mourning with renewed vigor for life, spreading love far greater than any evil can ever take away from you...!  I’m praying for all of you...those lost, those who remain, and those who look upon VT this week and are moved to change their hearts one more step towards love instead of hate.  God Bless all of you!!  - Dan Spadora -

Dear Virginia Tech faculty and students, my prayers and thoughts are with all of you as well as with your relatives and the whole American people. This is indded a tragic moment, one in which we should pause and think about why some people cause such enormous pain and suffering to other people for no apparent reason whatsoever. Nothing could actually justify such a terrible incident, and I am deeply saddened by the incident. May such things never happen again, and God bless you all!

We are shocked to hear such a happening from a place in which there should be atmost discipline and consideration. People are so late in taking actions that cost scores of valid lives. Let the almighty show his mercy in giving courage to all the members of affected families.

I can help but be shaken by this great tragedy. VT has always been the school i loved and dreamed of going to. My heart aches for the victims family and friends and i’m deeply sadden that this wonderful campus has to endure such pain for my guy who decided he didn’t love life or anyone in it. i wish there were words to say to just make everything better but you cant bring back the 32 lifes that were taken away. Their names and faces will always be in my heart and their family and friends will always be in my prayers. I’m shocked and horrified because so many i know attend the university but i know everyone there is strong and will get through it. You have my sympathy, my love, and everyone of you are in my prayers.

I know you must be receiving thousands of emails showing support for the faculty and students of VT. I also would like to take a minute to send out my condolences for the family of the shooter. I cannot fathom the anguish they must be feeling, that their own child would do such a pointless and selfish thing to so many people and their families. You all lost sons, sisters, brothers, daughters, fathers and mothers, friends and acquaintences to a man who showed no empathy to anyone. Healing begins with forgiveness and I hope someday we can all forgive Cho. He was someones son, too.

There are really no words that can lessen the pain, eradicate the horror that the VT community has experienced, or return the Blacksburg community to a state of normalcy anytime in the near future. May you be comforted knowing that you are not alone in this horrifying tragedy, you have a nation behind you that is praying for healing hands of God to be placed upon each of you in this most difficult and sorrowful time.
