A Child Loaned

“I’ll lend you for a little time
A child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while she lives,
And mourn for when she’s dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call her back
Take care of her for Me?
She’ll bring her charms to gladden you,
And should her stay be brief,
You’ll have her lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In My search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes,
I have selected you;
Now will you give her all your love,
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
And take her back again ?
I fancied that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
For the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter her with tenderness,
We’ll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for her
Much sooner then we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.

Dear Virginia Tech Community,
Words are inadequate to express my sympathy for you during this time of such sorrow.  My prayers and thoughts are with each of you as you grapple to deal with this tragic event.  Find comfort and peace in the love and friendship of one another.

The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

While we have never visited Virginia Tech, some of our best friends are alums, so we feel that through them, we have been there many times.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to all Hokies at this very difficult time.

As alums of another prominent land grant university ... Purdue, we share the same dreams,
hopes and aspirations that the future holds.

We wish we could be there with you to help in a more personal way, but have instead made a donation to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund in the hope that it will help the students, faculty, and families in this time of need.

As an author/poet/screenwriter, I believe words fill voids that linger beneath the horror of a harsh reality. As an energy therapist, I believe words breathe love where pain resides...so here is my poem for all who mourn those who speak to us still.

Connections
By Cindy Sandel

We live to be connected
All our ‘T’s intersected
By greatness.

We live to be free
To see up a tree that lets us
Forget who we left astray in its leaves.

We hear our own voices as great heroes
Yet we fear their cry to be and to try
To persuade trust to live as a must
And to hold one thing as a bright chime to ring
In our hope for tomorrow.

To the students, faculty, staff and families of VT,

Our family would like to offer prayers for those who have left us to a happy and eternal life with our Lord and for those left behind grieving.  We cannot begin to imagine what you are going through but we know that you will make it through onlyone day at a time, it will not be fogotten but it will get easier day by day.  May God bless you all and may we remember that we may not always understand the whys, but let’s celebrate the lives and memories of those who are not with us anymore and let’s not forget the family of this individual who committed this horrendous crime but will also suffer knowing that it was their son who did this.
