Condolences, April 18, 2007

(part II)

To the nation: let this horrific tragedy be a life lesson to us all.  Let us all just take another second to reflect on how short and precious life really is, on this side of Heaven.  Let us now have the courage and inspiration to live a pure/purposeful life; one in which we fully embrace and love the evolving life of people and all things living around us. May we now take a second to love before we hate, offer guidance instead of selfishness, live deeply and passionately rather than superficially and single-mindedly.

Let us all light and raise our candles, in rememberance of those who have passed, and in hope of a better, stronger, safer and more loving tomorrow.

Our hearts ache and we grieve with everyone touched by this tragedy. It’s never easy to lose loved ones, whether they’re in the prime of life or approaching their sunset years; it’s even more difficult to comprehend when our children/siblings/spouses/friends are taken from us so suddenly. The nation feels your pain and remembers all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

To those who have lost a loved one and to those who endured such a horrific experience on that day, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  To the faculty and students who showed such courage and are the reason that many are alive today, I applaud you.  I hope that one day your pain subsides and is overcome by the wonderful memories you have of your loved ones.  You are not alone Hokies, the entire world is here for you to lean on.  May God bless you all.

My family has deep roots in the Blacksburg community, and as Hokies.  This has been a very personal and unimaginable invasion in a place that is very beautiful and special--almost sacred.  The students who were the targets of this attack are all beautiful and special.  I don’t know how to even begin to make sense out of this.
One thing that I do know is that Hokies have strength, loyalty, courage and will that transcends all losses.  We will all carry the burden together--in our thoughts and prayers if we are at a distance, and with moral support if we are there. My heart goes out to everyone.

As a man of God,non-denomanational faith, my hearts grieves for the actions that took place that Monday morning. It started out as a regular school day and then lifes were changed for ever. Stay strong, lean on each other as well as God, do not let certain “clicks” keep you from comforting another student. My prayers are with you all and we will get through this tragedy even though some of you may feel like you are isolated from the world but payers are going up and are being answered---

From now on I won’t complain about what I don’t have and what I wish I had.

From this moment on I will be grateful for each and every breath.

Each breath is precious, not promised so I will give thanks for what I have right now.

For every second that I am living and able I will give and offer love to those around me, because love is such a precious and needful thing.  Love is we have is love.  Love is what God expects in return for his gift of life. Right now my heart is heavy, but it is heavy with the hope for love.  It is heavy with the desire for more compassion and empathy to be spread throughout this world.  This tradegy fills my soul with grief, makes me hurt the deepest hurt for those who lost their lives and for brilliance of their dreams that we will never know.  The condition of this world bothers me.  I hurt for the young who die in Iraq and I cry for these innocent students who lives are no more.  If I could find a better world I would run to it, but I have no other world to go to.  All we have is each other and this world to share.  How will we share it?  With senseless violence or love?  My heartfelt prayers are with Virginia Tech.

I pray that you can remember the happy times that you shared with those you lost.  Six years ago I lost my professor in an on campus college shooting, but I will always be thankful for the gift of his time and knowledge. Know that you are blessed that they were in your lives no matter how short. I pray that your pain will be able to subside into happy memories. Wait for it, it will come.

To the students and faculty of VA Tech-

All the joy of the last year for me as a Gator was swept away as I heard the tragic events unfold on Monday.  Today, words escape me as I see the faces of your fallen classmates, professors, students and colleagues.  The strength and unity you have demonstrated in the middle of this unimaginable crisis has been an inspiration to me!  I want to wish all of you at VA Tech my most sincere and heartfelt sympathies.  The Gator nation is thinking and praying for you all.
