To: The Families, Faculty, Students and Alumni of VT:

Please accept my heartfelt condolence on the tragic deaths on your campus.  It is at times like these that we look to our heavenly Father for comfort and the strenght to cope.  The April 15 issue of The Watchtower magazine has an appropriate article entitled How to React to Cruelty:  It lists in part the following Scriptures that can be a source of comfort and can help in the healing process:

Proverbs 20:22 “Do not say: “I will pay back evil!Hope in Jehovah, and he will save you.
Matthew 5:5 Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 7:12 “All things, therefore that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them.

God’s word also assures us that “He will wipe every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” Revelation 21:3,4.  The Bible gives a sure hope for a resurrection of our loved ones.  So as we mourn this great loss we have the comfort that by means of his Son, Jesus Christ, there will be a resurrection for those who have fallen asleep in death. (John 11:25; John 5:28, 29.  May the God of all comfort sustain us all during this period of mourning.

If it is any consolation--know that your pain is not only shared by every person in this country, but people all over the world are sincerely praying for all VT students and staff. My heart and spirit are broken for all of you! Words cannot express the ache in my heart for you all. My tears and prayers are for anyone hurt in any way by this tragedy. I have to offer my favorite Bible verse:
Revelation 7:17
For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepard; he will lead them to springs of living water.  And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

All I can offer is prayer, for He will make it well with our souls. Peace be with all, Amen.

To every thing, there is a season, and a time to EVERY purpose under the heaven.

God does not cause tragic events to happen. The sinful nature of man is responsible for these events. But God is there for you, to mend your broken hearts, and give you comfort.

From University of Florida, Florida State University, and University of Miami

We are a family that takes pride in our Florida University system. But today, we joined millions of Americans nationwide as we extend our pride --and love—to the Hokie family.

My thoughts can not even begin to comprehend the depths at which the weakening emotions are tautening the families and friends of the victim’s of this horrific event, but I hope they find comfort in knowing that they are not alone.

Universities all over the nation are holding candlelight vigils in honor of lost loved ones.  Anywhere a grieving soul may turn there is a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen…one even miles away.

To to the families of Ross Alameddine, Jamie Bishop, Ryan Clark, Prof. Kevin Granata, Caitlin Hammaren, Emily Jane Hilscher, Jarrett Lane, Matt La Porte, Henry Lee,
Prof. Liviu Librescu, Prof. G.V. Loganathan, Juan Ortiz, Mary Karen Read, Reema Samaha, Leslie Sherman, Maxine Turner, Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, Jeremy Herbstritt, Daniel Perez Cueva, Erin Peterson, Austin Cloyd, Minal Panchal and all others…

please know that they are not mere names on a memorial but they are going to be recognized as individuals and that their lives were all unique and their losses are EACH senseless and tragic.

No words can remedy your pain but please know that I as well as all university students will also bare your pain and that we all wish peace and comfort soon in your lives.

Having worked for thirteen years at a private school in Kentucky....I watched many children grow, graduate and then on to continue their young lives into adulthood and College. I sent many transcripts to various colleges. To see this tragic thing come to pass....and to know the loss...it is felt by many around the usa, that have dedicated our lives to helping students move forward to adults. WE are deeply saddened and share your grief.....you will be forever in our memories and our prayers! For we know not what tommorrow brings or the path we maust walk....be strengthened in each other and know that you give strength to each other. Look only to God for peace and comfort....when all else will fail!
We will pray for you continually!

I just wanted to share this poem I wrote upon lighting a candle in my home to honor you. I hope you like it.

As I sit here and watch
this flame rise from its wick.
It reminds me of the flames that once burned in your eyes
and how they were extinguished so quick.

Just like the flame dances on the wall
a flittering motion; quick and fleeting.
And how it must have been like that in that hall
watching those you called your own fall.

To have such a strong presence
just as this flame lights the room
To know that each one of your faces
were far too young and never allowed to bloom.

So I light this candle in honor of you
the strong, the weak, the bold, and the brave
You professors, students and loved ones
taken too soon to your grave.

May your memory stand with us all
not just because of this day.
But due to the love, happiness and strength
you brought in each of your own special ways.

We’ll never forget those colors
the orange and maroon.
The tragic day
when 33 were lost too soon.

To the students:
Theres something to learn from
the thorns of a rose,
The sound of rain falling
or why the wind blows
Our clocks keep on ticking
as days turn to years
And time passes by us
through the laughter and tears
You won’t be forgotten
your thought of with love
I am convinced without doubt
that you’re a gift from above
There’s something to learn from
the thorns of a rose
The sound of rain falling
or why the wind blows
