Although I did not attend Virginia Tech, I am a graduate of James Madison University, not far away. For all of those touched by this tragedy directly, I hope you know that I have been affected by your loss from a distance. May you find peace knowing that the ones you lost on Monday are still with you in spirit. God Bless -

To all the students, family, friends and anyone affected by the April 16 tragedy:
I am an older woman.  My kids and grandkids are well beyond college age.  But seeing the pictures of those slain at Virginia Tech has made my heart heavy and my eyes run with tears.
I weep for all of you, and I pray for all of you.  My heart goes out to all of you.  And I pray for the family of the shooter, too.  What agonies all of you are suffering!
My prayers, love and thoughts are with you now and will continue to be so for many, many days to come.
God be with you and comfort you in your losses.  May you someday find hope again.
In deepest sympathy,
Dianne Severance

Rise up

April 16, 2007 a day of sorrow in the Hokie nation.
The day blood was shed upon the colors maroon and orange.
A day terror reign and horror felt.
Tears were shed and hearts wrenched.
A day of grief beyond understanding.
Thirty two fell by anothers hand,
and many more were wounded.
The country and the world stood in shock and disbelief.
A nightmare unable to wake from.
Hokie nation embrace one another.
Hokie nation together rise up.
Hokie nation go forward and carry on.
Hokie nation remember the fallen.
Let not their legacy be of senseless violence.
Uplift their lives and memories in your lives.
Conduct your lives in honor of them.
Let this tragedy inspire you.
Inspire you to make the world a better place.
Let this be the legacy of the fallen.
Honor them in this loving way.
Be an example to the world of how to overcome.
Show the world what it means to be of the maroon and orange.
Show the world what it means to be of the Hokie nation

I am profoundly grieved over the tragic incident at a place which has always been so calm. There are so many memories attached with Blacksburg, the place has given a lot to me. I consider it as my second home. No matter what had happened I will always remember Virginia Tech for its good engineering programs and great football team.

As I watch the news I keep getting numb. Although I live in a different state, I feel for those who lost their lives. I don’t want to watch the news anymore, but I can’t help but stare. It’s a harsh reality, that is so sad, but true. People keep comparing it Columbine, but it’s nothing like that. I don’t understand how you can justify what happened. As many questions as we all have, they will never fully be answered, because the man that took the life of 32 innocent young adults, then took his life. I had anger when I seen this. You just can’t understand how ANY person could do this, but he simply was not sane. Every morning I have woken up, only to be sad for those who lost their lives, but also those who had to experience this disaster. I pray for those who made it through, and for those who didn’t. I wish you all the best, and I know I will NEVER forget what happened. Please take care, and keep those who didn’t make it alive in your hearts.

As we drove home tonight, we saw a cross at a local church drapped in orange and maroon.  We turned around and visited the cross. We were invited to leave prayers.  As I turned to leave, I noticed that the top of the cross someone had written we are all Hokies.  That pretty much says it all.  May God bless these grieving families and friends.  A + J

Christ our eternal King and God, You have destroyed death and the devil by Your Cross and have restored man to life by Your Resurrection; give rest, Lord, to the soul of Your servants who have fallen asleep, in Your Kingdom, where there is no pain, sorrow or suffering. In Your goodness and love for all men, pardon all the sins they have committed in thought word or deed, for there is no man or woman who lives and sins not, You only are without sin.

For You are the Resurrection, the Life, and Repose of Your servants departed this life, O Christ our God; and to You do we send up glory with Your Eternal Father and Your All-holy, Good and Life-creating Spirit; both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen

I know we may be miles apart, with me being in Canada in all, but i’ve never felt so close to people who i’ve never met before.. my thoughts and prayers are with each and every single staff member, student, and family of anyone one affected or anyone who has a heart to feel sadness by this awful act. There is nothing that can be said to rate the sevearity of this issue and all i can do is hope and prey that this will never ever happen again… i didnt know those involved, but my heart is bleeding for there families and friends. And i also prey for that young man who was ovbiousally sick, he did an awful awful deed, and to take his own life is cowardly, but God does teach forgiveness… We can all forgive, but we will never, ever forget…

be strong and know that the entire world is thinking of you and is wishing everyone of you the very very best.. It is kind of sad tho that it takes something to terribe for the world to come together.

may god bring you all peace in your lives and forgiveness and some sort of rest in your hearts. This young, misguided man also had a family that is grieving.

we will never forget, love you all!

Sincerly, Lisa Coffin

So much to say,I to lost a child to one single act of gun violence. So when I saw the breaking news of what had happened I sat and cried for all the parents who would learn they’d just lost a child. The days and weeks ahead will be some of the hardest of your life. Be kind to one another. Be patient and allow each their own process of grief. We all deal differently. Let those around you who love you help they so want to ease your pain and above all talk about it.It’s healthy to talk. My daughter has been gone 13 yrs this year there are those who think I talk about her to much to them I say simply walk a mile in my shoes.Try not to beat yourself up,we can’t change what happened. Life will never be the same for any of you , that doesn’t mean it’s not worth living. There will be joy again just give it time. There are many of us out here who would like to help. There is an organization I belong to who can offer you some comfort Parents Of Murdered Children I am sure they will reach out to you as they did me. Know we love you and that your nation grieves for you we will hold you closely in our hearts as these first weeks pass . God Bless all of you. With deepest sympathy Linda Horn
