It could be any college, any state, any new generation that this tragedy has struck.  My
heart bleeds for you, for us as a nation.
My heart breaks for this new world we have
created for the future.
As a mother of 2 daughters in college, I find
myself calling them more in the last 2 days
than ever before.  And they welcome the calls
knowing and hearing the concern in my voice.
In an instant a life can be taken so carelessly.

I have never felt so sad for my school.
The fear, the pain, the loss.
The families, the friends, the faculty.
I have never been so proud of my school.
We pause now to reflect, but we will go forward.

There is nothing anyone did to earn this grief.
The way we have conducted ourselves in our grief has earned us the respect of the world.
We will continue to respect ourselves and those we share this world with.
We will not let our grief make us bitter, and we will go forward.

God needed more Angels his chores were to many,
He called for help and now he’s got plenty:

Don’t weep for the loss now because they are gone,
Be glad their with God he’ll make them strong:

They have only left us for a short time,
They’ll be at the gate watching to see if you’re in line:

What a great day that will be,
Once again your loved ones you will see:

They are now in God’s care until you go home,
No need to worry for them, as they are not alone:

Soy un chico nicaraguense y al igual que toda la comunidad estudiantil de Estados Unidos me siento aterrado por los acontecimientos. En esta masacre murieron personas de todo el mundo y todas las culturas, pero al final todos hermanos de la misma universidad. Esta experiencia no debe doblegarlos; estas personas murieron para que el mundo entero se una como seres humanos que somos sin importar de donde vengamos o hacia donde vallamos. Porque todos somos diferentes, pero al final humanos y hermanos de la misma tierra.

My family’s thoughts and prayers are with all the families, and friends of those affected by this tragedy, especially the families of the victims, but also other students, past students, facilty, & staff.  We know there were Nova Scotia connections in the tragedy and it has greatly affected many in our community & at our own Nova Scotia Agricultural College.  With international students and staff, this has become a tragedy that has caused the world to grieve. Know that others care.  Be strong, pull through this as a university family & God bless you as you work to move on.

Words cannot express the shock and horror this tragedy has inspired. We are, as a people, once again attempting to make sense out of yet another violent and senseless act. My prayers are with the families, friends, classmates and fellow faculty members of those who died so terribly.  May they find even a small bit of comfort in knowing that the thoughts and prayers of this country are with them. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. God Bless us all.  Sharon Rojas

O Lord,
We feel the cut of shared pain, the darkness that drives humans to such violence, the anguish in witnessing terror and violence. We are staggered by the loss. We need you.

Lord, you are also cut by the death of your children at Virginia Tech.

You, too, anguish over the brokenness, violence and horror. You know our grief. You alone can bear our grief and carry our sorrows.

Fix our minds on You, O Lord. In your mercy, comfort and help all who suffer and grieve.
In your mercy, may they find rest.
In your mercy, may they find strength.
In your mercy, may they find healing for the broken heart.
In your mercy, may they find perfect peace.

Show us how to walk in your light.
When we fail, pick us up out of the mire we slip into, and bring those so hurt into your peace.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Dear Virginia Tech students and faculty,
Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. May God gives you the strength to rise above the pain so that you can remember and celebrate the lives of those lost in the tragedy. May we all remember how special each person was and how we were blessed to have known them. Let us all resolve to love one another. Let us seek ways to spread love and peace so that other families will not have to suffer such a great loss. You are not alone.

To all who have lost someone close to them, my heart breaks for you. I pray that you find the strength to get through this surreal time. And while life will never be the same, I hope that eventually you are able to find joy and comfort as your loved ones remain in your hearts forever.

I know that the lives and memories of those lost will continue to be honored long after this fades from the front pages of our news sources. They deserve that.
