As a paramedic responder to the Univ. of Iowa campus shootings in 1991 and father of a college freshman (who’s campus had a bomb threat today), I can only say that you are not alone...we are all standing by your side holding you up. Time does help heal, but you never forget. Try not to waste energy trying to make sense of this...there is none to be made. Instead, hold each other...and live life. The living must carry on...on behalf of those who were lost. That is the way they would have wanted it. Our prayers are with you. EMTP196

To the Students, Faculty, and Staff,

My heart grieves for you.  I, along with most of you, am still in shock over the unthinkable events that occurred last Monday.  Seeing the headline “Massacre at Virginia Tech” plastered on every newscast is a stark contrast to the quiet and peaceful University, nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains, that I remember from my days there some 25 years ago.  I, along with millions of people around the world, am praying that GOD will comfort you and give you strength to recover from this dreadful event.  I firmly believe that, even in this dark moment, GOD is in control, and that we will arise from this tragedy stronger than ever.  After all, WE ARE .... VIRGINIA TECH !

To the VT community:  I will never forget the heroism of those who gave their lives to save others.  That someone who saw the worst of human nature during the Holocaust could nonetheless put himself in harm’s way to protect others testifies to the quality of the community you are so fortunate to have.  Please try to remember the best about those who were lost, and so prove the poet’s words:  “Unable are the Loved to die.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We hope you can find some peace after such an unnecessary and tragic event. The world is looking on in horror at what has happened, and I hope I hope your government starts to take some notice about the availability of gun in the U.S. - this did not need to happen…

All our stength, love and compassion is with you at this time - stay strong and fight through this…

To the Student Body, Faculty & Staff of Virginia Tech:

As a proud alumnus of our great institution, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to all the victims, their families & friends, during this most difficult time.  As I watch the events from a distance, and hear about from my sister (a sophmore who is representing our family @ Tech), I cannot begin to express the emotions that I am feeling over the course of the last few days.  But I can say that I have never been more proud to be a Hokie, and the strong, selfless, caring face that Virginia Tech is showing the world right now is so moving.  There is a saying that you learn the true character of a person (or an instution) during times of crisis.  Virginia Tech has never looked better!!!  I am so proud of all of you!  God Bless.....and GO HOKIES!

when i think about the terrible events from monday, i can barely hold back the tears but 1 song written by steven curtis chapman comes 2 mind: this is not at all how we thought it wuz supposed 2 be; we had so many plans for you we had so many dreams;but now youve gone away & left us with the memory of your smile; and nothing we can say and nothing we can do can take away the pain, the pain of losing you; but we can cry with hope, we can say goodbye with hope, cause we know our goodbye is not the end, and we can grieve with hope cause we believe with hope theres a place where we ll see your face again

im praying for you every minute

There are no cards that are so poetic, no roses
that are so fragrant that they dismiss the tingling sensations of brokenness that come upon us when we see our expectations cave in.

God Bless all of you! I just want all of you to know that my prayers are with you all.  I have a daughter in college and a son in middle and this could have happen anywhere.  We as parent send our children to school and we all await their arrival from school each and everday.  I pray that we do something to stop this for happening again. God please look after the rest of our children, no parent should have to go through this, no parent.

This is not the way I wanted Virginia to be spotlighted in the world in the 400th year anniversary of the beginning of this great Country!  I remember the tranquil mountains and valleys of Southwestern Virginia with fondness, and it hurts me to think of that tranquility disrupted by so much hurt, pain, and destruction, so needless!  We can never make any sense of it, and it CAN happen anywhere, anytime.  Hold on to each other and be kind to each other.  Know that each of the family members, students and faculty are in the thoughts of the nation.

As a recent graduate of the University of New Mexico, I am horrified (like everyone else) by what has happened at VT.  How many of us wake up, go to our classes, and expect anything like this could ever happen to us?

I just can’t imagine the fear these victims must have felt that morning.  I can’t even bring myself to think about it.

Please know that everybody is heartbroken over what has happend.  This incident could have happened at any of our colleges and universities.

I am praying for all of you ... the victims, the friends and families, the VT students, staff and community.

My God bless each and every one of you.

There is a song from the Soundtrack of City of Angels...I grieve.  That describes how I feel...my daughter attends VA Tech and the fright that overtook me on Monday was horrifying.  Yes, Thank God she is alright but not 3 of her friends.  I am her mother and a “HOKIE” and I reach out to all of my fellow Hokie family members as well as a grieving nation in expression of my sincerest heartfelt sympathy, prayers and they are in my thoughts and heart.

Reading through the VT sources it is clear there is strength all over your campus - May your strength continue to flourish in these dark days of trajedy.  For us across the nation, it is the time for mourning, respect, and sympathy.  Your pain is vibrating in all of us.  Here, where I sit, down the street from another school tragedy, I can’t help but to also harbor much anger, but I need to stifle that rage for now, let the respect for your pain rule this day.  Be strong VT.

My heart goes out to all the victims family and friends. I went to school with both Erin and Reema and they were both great girls! They will all be truly missed and forever remembered!
To all those in pain, I am praying for you,
Brittney

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance.
For a break that would make it ‘ok’.
Theres always some reason to not feel not good enough and its hard at the end of the day.
I need some distraction. Oh, beautiful release. Memories seep through my veins.
Let me be empty…oh weightless and maybe, we’ll find some peace tonight…

In the arms of the angel

Fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you feel.
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie.
You’re in the arms of an angle, may you find some comfort here.

To all of the families and friends of the victims- may you be able, in time, to remember all of the goodness in the world, and the happiness that your loved ones brought to you.

I know there is not any thing that we can say or do that will take all of this pain away. I know that everyone is grieving with you. There is a song that I cling to and I would like to share it with you today. It is called Love Them Like Jesus from Casting Crowns. Therefore, what I am going to do for you today is love you like Jesus and lift each and every one of you up to him.

I’m a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. I wish to express mine, my family’s, and some of my classmates’ deepest condolences for your losses.

Here is a prayer on the cd that is after the song that says, “Father, God if you’re here right now, we have friends and family going through a storm in their life. Father, just remind us there is not one time that they have slipped your mind. You are an awesome sovereign holy daddy. You love them more than we do. Father, all we need to do is to love them like Jesus. In your name we pray. Amen”

If there is anyone that just needs someone to listen to you. You can email me and I will listen. My name is Stephanie Wilkinson and my email address is stephaniewilkinson@txstate.edu.

I will try to post the lyrics to the song on a separate post.

My friend and I, both alumni of Tech (’85) commented that we feel as if all of this is happening to “our kids” and our home.  We cannot begin to comprehend the grief the campus community is feeling nor the despair of the parents realizing their child will never come home again. As trite as it sounds, it is true that you all are in our hearts.  There is a bond that connects Hokies that is beyond understanding - know that any of us would offer assistance in any way.  We love you all! As a college student myself, I saw footage of last night’s candlelight vigil on the VT campus and want to say how amazing it is to see the student community coming together after this tragedy.  Hold on to each other, stay united, and I have no doubt your campus will bounce back 100 percent.

My prayers are with all of you and with all who knew and loved those who were to suddenly taken.  God bless each of you and Virginia Tech.
