Condolences, April 18, 2007

Having worked on college campuses for the last 15 years, my heart breaks everytime I think about this tragedy.  I wish there was something I could do to help. Stay strong for one another and don’t be afraid to reach out for support.

My thoughts are with all of you and your families.

This is a song dedicated to those victims of this inconceivable event.
Shawn Deena

BEFORE I FADE

WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO GO TO SCHOOL
GRABBED MY STUFF, BITE TO EAT EVERYTHING WAS COOL
WHEN I GOT TO CLASS, THE WORLD SEEMED OKAY
THEN I HEARD A NOISE, FELT A PAIN, SAW A FLASH AND THE GROUND GAVE WAY

I SAW YOU STANDING THERE
WITH A GUN WAVING IN THE AIR
WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE MY LIFE AWAY?
WAS IT SOMETHING I DID OR DIDN’T DO, WAS IT SOMETHING I SAID OR DIDN’T SAY

I GUESS I’LL NEVER GET TO THROW MY CAP UP IN THE AIR
YOU AND ME, YOU AND I, WERE JUST A COUPLE MONTHS AWAY FROM THERE
THEY’RE GONNA SAY, GONNA SAY, THAT YOU DIDN’T CARE
BUT I KNOW, I UNDERSTAND, I APPRECIATE HOW YOU ENDED UP HERE

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME, YOU AND WHAT YOU’VE DONE
IS THAT I’VE ONLY THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT YOU WENT OUT AND GOT THAT GUN
SO BEFORE I GO I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW
EVEN THOUGH I COULDN’T CHANGE TODAY
PLEASE DON’T LET ME FADE AWAY

I live in Scotland, and could never imagine what the families of those who were murdered are going through.  Im deeply saddened and disturbed by what has gone on.  So many good people gunned down in their prime.  I hope that more appropriate measures are put into place to stop this carnage happening again anywhere.  As a nation they must be moved by what has gone on.  It brings back memories of the carnage that hit Scotland 11 years ago. My thoughts go out to everyone.

Dear students, faculty and families,

I am so sorry for the tragedy at Virginia Tech.  Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for all of you, especially those whose lives were lost, their families, those that were injured and their families.  I pray for a speedy and healthy recovery for those who are injured and for them and their families to find strength.  I also pray for continuing and strong support for your community, especially for those who lost loved ones.  Believe me when I say that millions of people throughout this country are with you at this time, in mind, spirit and prayer.  I wish I could be there to comfort all of you.  Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers every single day.  You are teaching all of us to remember how important it is that we come together in times of need and truly show our humanity.

To those who are not with us on this earth - thank you for your courage, bravery, the lives you led and the people you touched every day.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved-ones of those lost or hurt on April 16, 2007.  We are very proud to be HOKIES.  Blacksburg and the campus have always been safe places to live and study.  After seeing the way everyone has come together, I am confident that the students, faculty and staff will recover from this horrific tragedy.  Thank you for showing the world what it truly means to be a HOKIE.  As Nikki Giovanni said, WE WILL PREVAIL!  God Bless you all!

Every single one of you are in my thoughts, my prayers and my heart! I’m a student at the University of New Mexico, and your school is similar to ours in many ways. The city of Albuquerque as well as the University of New Mexico are holding candle light services tonight. I’m horrified by these events! I pray that you all are able to find peace and some how make sense of the senseless. Life will go on and be livable again, until then, I encourage you to continue your education and follow your dreams!

You Meant So Much
by Alisha Jessee
You meant so much to all of us
You were special and that’s no lie
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky

Your smile alone warmed hearts
Your laugh was like music to hear
I would give absolutely anything
To have you well and standing near

Not a second passes
When you’re not on our minds
Your love we will never forget
The hurt will ease in time

Many tears I have seen and cried
They have all poured out like rain
I know that you are happy now
And no longer in any pain.

It has been over thirty years since I walked the grounds of VT as a student. I have always been proud of my school and have always felt a great sense of family with this great institution. My proudest moment came yesterday during the convocation ceremony as the VT community showcased for all the world our strength, compassion, and solidarity. My family prays for healing and peace for all those affected by this national tragedy.

My heart aches for everyone that this tragedy has touched.  Some of you first hand, and others of us at a distance.  We are all reached to the core of our being by this horrific, senseless act. The pain that is endured when something of this magnitude happens is unbearable.  Please know that you are not suffering alone.  The outreach of prayers for all who suffer will hopefully guide you through this most difficult time in your lives.  E.G.

Please, please take care of your children. Dear Hokies Present and Past,

My heart and thoughts go out to all affected. I know everytime the television pans the campus that I spent such great times on I think this is not the way I want to share the beautiful campus with the world.  Virginia Tech is a wonderful strong family, and I am proud to be part of it. This could have happened on any campus, but I trust in time VT will heal.  Bless all

I’m not exactly sure what to say, because I know that nothing that I could every say would make it better. I can’t even image this happening in such a small place, the city I live in is twice the size of Blacksburg, and still seems too small for anything like this to happen in. Also, I send my my whole hearted love and prayers to everyone in Blacksburg. I hope your pain will be easied knowing that so many people are with you in your heart. Lastly, as a current college student I hope that student can return to class to feel safe and still believe in the educational system. Please be safe and don’t lose faith, in the power above.

Blacksburg and Virginia Tech is a wonderful place to live. I was there only 3 short years in the early 1980’s. I was a “townie” but involved with the university through the athletic association writing a weekly article for the local paper on the good that individual athletes had done for the community. I was also involved with the ABC affiliate covering the Hokies Football games. As a townie I had the unique priviledge of serving on the committee that brought in the Concert, Drama ,and Symphony series to the school.

Although I did not graduate from VT It is my home school. It is a wonderful community and the students all are very special, loving, caring and intelligent.  I have not been back to Blacksburg in almost 25 years but the love and caring for it will never leave me.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire town, student body, faculty and staff. I want to especially express my deepest sympathies to those who lost loved ones,be they family, extended family or friends and fellow students.

May God have his hand of love and peace on you and help you through this most difficult time. The World is praying for all of Virginia Tech.  God Bless you all !

As a former student at the University of Arkansas, this tragedy hits home for me. In 2000, the University of Arkansas mourned the loss a teacher who was killed by a student. Though the magnitude of Monday’s events seems to be much greater, my heart is sadened by this horrible and senseless tragedy.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s families, students, faculty, and staff at Virginia Tech!!

Though so far away, I send my deepest sympathy and love. Even in Arkansas, we mourn with you.

When unexpected tragedies happen like Virginia Tech, we try and make sense out of the events and try and piece together something to make us understand ‘why.’ While our city (Charlotte, NC) under goes through the healing process of losing two fallen officers, we now face another senseless tragedy one week later here at Virginia Tech. Though you are miles away, we weep for you and shed the same tears of sadness as if we were there with you in the flesh.

I will not attempt to convey any words of comfort at this time because words seem so small for such a big tragedy. The city of Blacksburg, VA has suffered a tremendous loss. The cries of your students came be heard throughout the churches, communities and schools.

I did not know these students, faculty members, but my heart hurts just the same, so I cry for you, the families and our community. These families have been left without any answered questions as to ‘why’ their family members. Just know understand, there is always a purpose behind someone’s pain. You may not know what it is immediately but you will know in time.

With Deepest Sympathy,

The Cannon Family

To all the students, faculty, and families of Virginia Tech,
Virginia Tech has been in our family for two generations. While I attended the rival school UVA, several family members, many friends and my husband all attended Virginia Tech. I know that this horrible event does not define the school, or the bright and generous character of its many students. I pray that every person affected may find peace, somehow, and comfort.
Sincerely,
