My heart is heavy with grief for my extended Hokie family.  As a 1990 VT Alum as well as in the collective human experience, I am mourning the loss of our fallen Hokies.  Indeed, as Dr. Giovanni said, “We are Virginia Tech.” And we are all Hokies around the world today.  God bless.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I an the gentle autumns rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush -
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone so deeply affected and sadened by this uncomprehensible loss.

Our thoughts and prayers for all of you consume us for we think of you often. There is comfort in Jesus and the promise of a better place with him.

My deepest sympathy to all the families and friends who lost a special and loved person in such a horrible way.

Even though I live on another continent, far away from the scene of this tragedy, it deeply touched me. I don’t know why. The daily news are full of shocking pictures and reports and it doesn’t have such an effect on me like the tragedy that took place at Virginia Tech.

I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how to help.

But I think the Bible, God’s Word, can.
God gives us hope. Hope to see all our loved ones we lost again. And we can read the promise:
“And he will wipe out eery tear
from their eyes, and death will
be no more, neither will mourning
nor outcry nor pain be anymore.
The former things have passed away.”
(Revelation 21:4)

If it were possible I would send my hugs per mail to all the families whose hearts were broken on Monday.
So, I can only say: We think of you! You’re not alone!

I am very sorry to hear that this had to happen. Let alone on one of our college campuses. I know that this does not bring these inicent people back but what ever the campus police or the comunity does it hopefully will better this campus and comunity.

Dearest All,

I don’t know any of you or your families but I wanted to share my deepest condolences to all of you during this very sad time.

To all the victims families- I am deeply horrified by this tragedy and will never understand as to how people can be so selfish as to take the lives of others without ever knowing them. I wish a full and successful recovery to all those injured in this tragic event.

To all the students- You all should be so proud of yourselves as each one of you is heroic in your own way. To those that stood up and defended I commend you for your strength and courage. To those that provided comfort to others in their time of need, I praise you for your kindness and most of all to those that were wounded but fought till the end, I admire your drive to never give up.

I hope you all hold your head up high as proud parents, as proud students as you are all true hero’s in my eyes that came together in unity.

No race, culture, language, color and sex has been unaffected by this tragedy you have all touched the lives of many.

God Bless

I am deeply sorry for each and every person who lost a loved one in this tragic shooting.  I know what it is like to lose a loved one, because I lost my mother, father and brother within a three year period.  It is ok to get mad and cry, let your feelings out and grieve very loudly.  At first, I felt like it was the “twilight zone”, and that my whole world was turned upside down.  But in time, you know that they are in a much better place.  By us continuing on with our lives, that is how they live on...through us.  I keep a card that was written by Maya Angelou and it reads… “In the face of such uncertainty believe in these two things:  You are stronger than you think, and you are not alone”.  Live on strong, as that is what your loved ones would have wanted;I am sure of that.  God bless each and every one of you.

My deepest sympathy...Marianne - Phoenix, Arizona

Being that my boyfriend, my better half, is a Hokie himself...when I heard the news of the events my heart sank.  Thankfully he was safe and sound in his dorm room at the time of the event. I actually had just left on Sunday from Blacksburg, I LOVE the campus, and I LOVE the people! I am not a Virginia Tech student, but I AM a Hokie at heart!  I am so deeply saddened by the lives that were stolen.  I wanted each and every family of each victim to know that my heart goes out to you and your children will not be forgotten.  I did not know them, but we all love them dearly.  You are all in my prayers and I know that these times of grief, anger and sorrow will be enduring but you’ve got the entire nation on your side! I Love you All dearly! May God Bless You All!

I would like to recognize Liviu Librescu for having the tremendous courage to sacrifice his life for the lives of his students. His selflessness enabled those students to survive this horrific tragedy. It’s clear that he truly cared for his students and in my opinion, he is a hero. On 4/16 I could not believe what I was seeing.  The place where my wife and I spent the best times of our lives together was ripped open.

I was overwhelmed with two emotions, at first I felt sorrow.  I want to express my heart felt sorrow to the friends and families of all of those affected by this travesty.  My prayers are with you and your loved ones will always have a special place in my heart. I never thought that I would see the Hokie Bird cry, but he was weeping on that day.

What surprised me though was the next emotion that I felt and that was pride:

I am proud of the student body.  They already have begun to show that even such an unthinkable act, could not stop or even slow down the Hokie Spirit.  I watched several of the news channels and student after student that was interviewed showed what it meant to be a Hokie even in the face of such horror.

I am proud of how the university handled and is handling the situation.  President Steger and his staff showed competence, dignity and empathy at a level that cannot be compared.

I am proud of the university family at large and how we have circled the wagons to protect our own.

I am proud to be a HOKIE.
