It was with deep sorrow that I heard the news of this tremendous tragedy.

Although things must seem very black and bleak at the moment - and indeed they are, know that you are all in our thoughts and you will look back on this time with fond memories of your co-students who were unfortunately cut down in their prime.  Striving for excellence in their memory will be the best legacy that you can attribute to them.  God bless and I hope you find some peace and solace at this time of great sadness.

Several years ago, my nephew was murdered in a random act of gun violence. My family was devastated, but while the loss of Patrick was a blow that cannot be measured, the pain has lessened over time.
This said, I can unfortunately well imagine what the friends and families of those lost in this senseless act of violence are going through. My thoughts are with you as you grieve. Get help, take your time and don’t let anyone tell you to move on. Grieving is a very personal thing - move on when you are ready.

It may be that no one will understand why the events took place at that particular time or that particular place...or even why he did it. Even in the small town here in Iowa, we’re praying, we’re hurting, and we’re hoping for all of you. God is with you all, He’s buiding an army and He takes only the best. My condolences to each and every one of you who lost a loved one. We’ve all suffered, but you have suffered the most. You have all of my love, hope, prayers, and thoughts. May God bless each and every one of you.

To all Faculty, Staff and the entire Student Body of VT.  My heart goes out to all of you and those affected by this tragedy. I have been watching all the shows on the media and I am amazed at the heroism these young students have expressed.  I am a parent of two sons away at college and would hope they too would act in this manner.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

EVERYONE IS FEELING YOR PAIN. PLEASE KNOW THAT ALL OF YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
CHERISH ALL THE MEMORIES YOU HAD WITH EACH OF THESE INNOCENT STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS.
LETS ALL JOIN TO TOGETHER AND MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN BECAUSE OF THIS HORRIFIC TRAGEDY
YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS HURTING INSIDE AS OBVIOUSLY THIS BOY WAS. YOU KNOW IT STARTS WHEN KIDS BEGIN SCHOOL, WE AS PARENTS NEED TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO REACH OUT AND BE KIND TO EVERYONE.
I DONT KNOW IF THIS KID WAS BULLIED WHEN HE WAS YOUNG OR NOT BUT BULLYING IN SCHOOL SHOULD BE A TOUGH PENALTY, NOT A WARNING IF IT IS REPORTED THEN THAT KID THATS DOING IT NEEDS TO BE SUSPENDED IMMEDIATELY!
WE AS A NATION NEED TO STAND UP AND STOP ALL OF THIS SENSLESS KILLINGS IN OUR SCHOOLS!
WHY NOT PAY MORE TAXES TO HAVE MEDAL DETECTORS AT EVERY DOOR OF EVERY CAMPUS AND IN OUR SCHOOLS. THATS A SAD THING TO HAVE TO DO BUT WE NEED TO TAKE A STAND !!!!!!!!!!

I myself was a student on an American campus a few years back and it was a really wonderful experience!  I still believe that the U.S. is a wonderful country offering many opportunities to people from all around the world and I don’t think that this tragic event should overshadow that fact!  People in Greece share in your sadness over these tragic events! Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been effected by it! Be strong!

Pride always
As Tech Tech VPI
Echos
In heart and mind
Second generation
One of many
Heart ache
To those of us
That will call
VaTech our home
Forever
As our children
Are lost
Trying to find
A way to reach
Fingertips
Over miles
To touch those hurt
Heal those wounds
Lend our strength
As best we can
And let you know
We care…
We are with you

I send my love…
Your sorrow is
Shared and deeply felt
My prayers are with
All of you…

I am deeply saddened by the events that took place at Virginia Tech on 4/16.  Words cannot describe how it has affected me, even as an alumni living in Falls Church, VA - I feel like we’ve been robbed of our Hokie brothers and sisters.  I did not know any of the victims personally, but their loss is felt deeply within my heart, and they will be sorely missed.

God bless the families and friends of the victims, as well as all Virginia Tech students, faculty, and alumni.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We will prevail in light of this tragedy - We are Virginia Tech.

Scripture tells us that: “Weeping my endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning”.
The present night time of your grief and sorrow is incomprehensible. While time will gradually assuage your sorrow, you will hold in your heart for a life time, the memory of the those loved and lost so senselessly.
Dawn will come, morning will break, life will continue, but now with even more meaning and purpose, because of what you have experienced and internalized.
With sincere love and profound sympathy.

We wanted to take the time to express our sorrow, fear, heartbreak and pain we shared with you during that horrific day 4/16/07.  My newphew is a student at WVU and he has high school friends from Hershey, PA attending VT.  I could hear the fear and anguish in his voice as we exchanged phone calls, worrying about loved ones and ones we didn’t know, but feared and prayed for nonetheless.  All of his buddies were thankfully OK but that is little comfort knowing the pain the families/friends of those who lost their lives are going through.  We are keeping all of you close in our thoughts and prayers.  Be strong for each other.  Tammy Garrison/James Jackson

As the mother of 4 tweenagers, 2 attending college,I am grief stricken about Virginia Tech.We teach our children to be aware of their surroundings & imminent danger. But to live without fear.
I don’t know the victims of this tragedy, but I have been crying and mourning the loss, nontheless.I pray for the victims, their families, the faculty, the students.
Also, the gunman’s family. No parent should have to experience this sort of horror, not even his family.
This can be an eye opener for all to step up to the plate,do something to make a difference;be more aware of our surroundings, listen to that innate feeling telling us that something could be wrong, reach out to those who are alone, try to see the huge amount of mental illness in our country (undiagnosed, untreated),be unafraid to ask questions, seek out potential problems that could be stopped.
I know our whole nation shares the grief with all involved in this tragedy.I will hold my own children closer tonight, either in my arms or in my heart.I pray that we come together to end these domestics terrorisms.
God bless you all.My heart bleeds for everyone involved, and the future of our nation, our children.
With deepest sympathy...and hope…

I cannot put any words together that can take away the pain. I am angry, sad and confused. I have no experience that I can draw from to help me understand what has happened. I have read through a lot of the posts on this site and I find comfort in the kindness pouring in from around the world.

If you come across another HOKIE in need of help, grab them and bring them with you. I am a HOKIE and you are my brothers and sisters and we WILL get through this because that is what we do.

Every day we live and breathe, it is because of God’s mercy, and no day is promised to us, so live each day to the fullest. To the families of lost love ones, I pray that God will send his angels to encamp around you and the spirit of God will grant you peace, give you comfort, wipe away your tears. Our prayers are with you, the students and the administration as they mourn for their lost loved ones and pray that the holy comforter will be there to heal the broken spirits.

the gates to Heaven,
they were busy today.
anothers madman
have made our people their prey.
our peace has been shattered,
our comfort snatched away.
they have stolen our laughter,
painting black on what was to be a beautiful
day.
we cant let them win nor let them prevail
by stealing our spirit, our hope and our
lives.
that is their plan,to make us fearful and
frail
and undermine our strength, our will to
survive.
tonight, make a vow to foil their plans
by keeping active and not retreating from
life’s way.
join the others, who are rallying for our
land, proving that our courage and faith
has been with us,always.
the gates to Heaven,
they were busy today.
never again shall anothers madman
make our people their prey.

be strong and trust in God

As in our state over a decade ago, death has come unexpectedly to too many during a violent event.  We are so very sorry that you must endure such pain.

I pray that your community will wrap arms and hold tightly in ways you’ve never held before.  Hold tightly for a long, long time.

Especially to this year’s Senior class and others who may graduate or find new homes ... please do everything possible to heal and to grieve during the coming months and years, for you will miss the future efforts your University will offer in support of its community members.

Please reach out and let this mystery of earthly life somehow become a peaceful part of your new existence.  The intensity of the trauma can be diminished and ultimately the memory can inspire.  You are forever changed, as people, but the form of the change is up to you, given the decisions you make from this moment forward.

Many people will continue to pray for your peace of mind and heart.  We hope you will experience a sense of strength and courage from these prayers.

May God, Spirit, Nature comfort and sustain you from these days forward.
