To all touched by this horrible turn of events:

As I woke up and begin my day, my thoughts turn to all of you.  As I tuck my only daughter into her bed, my thoughts turn to you.  As a parent I cannot imagine how I would get thru something so unfair, and so hard.  There is truly nothing more frightening than the thoughts of losing someone who means so much to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you.

May God heal your hearts…

I am heartsick at the tremendous loss of talent, compassion, kindness and intellect Virginia Tech and rest of this country has experienced. My hope is that somehow something positive will arise from this senseless tragedy. Please know that countless fellow citizens are grieving for you all and pray that love will help you heal.

Last week the Imus situation had me all upset about reverse racism and all of the unnecessary attention that it brought from so many people across the nation.

I wonder if they still feel like they are scarred for life. Do they still feel like victims?

I have a 1-year old baby and cannot imagine life without her. I cry at the thought of it. Parents should not outlive their children.

I’ve always felt guilty about turning to God in times of need when so often I don’t turn to him in times of good. But, we as humans need something to help us through when nothing makes sense. Turn to Him and He will be there for you. I believe that with all my heart.

Focus on your future and everything that remains important to you. Continue to live.

To the entire Va Tech community...we are deeply saddened but also uplifted by what we have seen on the tv for the past couple of days, the strength, dignity and caring of everyone involved in this tragedy is just inspiring. We have a daughter at WVU, her best friend is a Hokie and many of her graduating class are at VT so this affects our whole communty too...basically the whole world! Just know that at WVU they are planning a vigil tonight and are passing out orange and burgundy ribbons as a show of support....and that all of the state of Virginia, the US, and the World are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers.
Go Hokies!!

"Weeping endures for a night, but Joy cometh in the Morning.”

In the face of such a profound tragedy and such a senseless act it is difficult to find the words that will heal a heart and give a tortured mind ease. At such a time, anything you say seems to be trite and without purpose.

Know, though, that prayers, thoughts, and the desire to be of service is strong in your fellow academic communities around the world and that if you need anything, feel anyone can help, you have only to ask.

In the end there are no real words to say to make the pain stop and time run backward to change what is into what might have been.

What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose. —Henry Ward Beecher

You never know, how close to the rest of the world you really are, until it comes jumping into your face.
I just heard that Jamie Bishop, the German prof, who was killed in the tragedy, studied at the University of Kiel, Germany, in my heart my second Alma Mater.

And suddenly it hits home, that this was not just names on paper, but real people, young people, just like the ones I see at my own university everyday, that have been killed.

And I feel reminded of my home state’s capital, Erfurt and the fear of not knowing, if somebody you know has been hurt.
We look back and connect to the deceased’s families and those still holding bedside vigil over their loved ones and we wonder.
Was there anything, anybody could have done?
We try to blame something, anything, anybody.
Video games, Police, officials, society.
But in the end, we only understand how helpless we are in the face of such tragedy.

My ongoing prayers go out to those, who lost loved ones and especially to those, who are wounded, in body and/or soul and their families.
I pray that those who still are in critical condition will find the strength to go on fighting and that all of them will make a quick and complete recovery.

Best wishes from Germany.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horible tragedy. Everyone student, professor, and family that was involved is in my prayers. When classes resume next week, I hope students find strength and support to continue with their education. I have two children myself, and I could not image what these families are going to have to deal with. Every student and professor that was a victim of the shootings on Monday, April 16 will be remembered forever. I hope the injured survivors heal physically and emotionally. They have a long road ahead of them, and hopefully everyone’s prayers will help.

ALL silent is the room
I sit alone with Death
Thy little life is o’er
Thy little journey done
Sweet infant, dead too soon
Thou shalt no more behold
The face of sun or moon
Or starlight clear and cold
Nor know, where thou art gone
The mournfulness and mirth
We know who dwell upon
This sad, glad, mad, old earth
The foolish hopes and fond
That cheat us to the last
Thou shalt not feel beyond
All these things thou hast passed
Death’s sword may well be bared
Gainst those grown old in strife
But it might have spared
Thy little unlived life
Why talk as in despair?
Just God, whose rod I kiss
Did not make thee so fair
To end thy life at this
There is some pleasant shore
Far from His Heaven of Pride
Where those strong souls who bore
His Cross in bliss abide
Some place where feeble things
For Life’s long war too weak
Find refuge when they die
Child Jesus walketh there
Amidst child-angel bands
With smiling lips, and fair
White roses in His hands
I kiss thee on the brow
I kiss thee on the eyes
Farewell! Thy home is now
The Children’s Paradise
