You are all in my prayers this week. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and sorrow you must be going through right now. But know that students, parents, and citizens all over the world are in support of Virginia Tech tonight. No matter which school a person attends, this week, we are all Hokies. God bless you all, and I pray that time will one day heal the wounds you are suffering. Stay together, and stand strong. United, you can make it through. You’re in my prayers.

LETTER OF JOHN PAUL II
TO ALL THE HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT
OF THE WORLD

To Their Excellencies Heads of State or Government

I have the honour of presenting to Your Excellency the text of this common agreement, convinced that these ten propositions can inspire the political and social action of your government.

I observed that those who took part in the Assisi Meeting were more than ever motivated by a common conviction:  humanity must choose between love and hatred. All of them, feeling that they belong to one and the same human family, were able to express their aspiration through these ten points, convinced that if hatred destroys, love, on the contrary, builds up.

I hope that the spirit and commitment of Assisi will lead all people of goodwill to seek truth, justice, freedom and love, so that every human person may enjoy his inalienable rights and every people, peace. For her part, the Catholic Church, who trusts and hopes in “the God of love and peace”
With gratitude to Your Excellency, for the attention you will be kind enough to give my Message, I take the present opportunity offered to assure you of my prayerful best wishes.

From the Vatican, 24 February 2002.

What a profound sorrow it is
To think of this world
Without you
Without your presence
Shaping the day
Focusing our thoughts
Astounding
To think
of your silence
your presence
in this world

Quiet and sincere sympathy is often the most welcome and efficient consolation to the afflicted. Said a wise man to one in deep sorrow, “I did not come to comfort you; God only can do that; but I did come to say how deeply and tenderly I feel for you in your affliction”.

To the Virginia Tech Family:

My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with all of those affected by this unbelievable tragedy.  I graduated in 1988 and feel like I am walking across the drillfield every time I watch the news coverage.  The reason for this feeling is because Virginia Tech made me feel like such a part of a great thing during my tenure there.

I come not from Virginia, never have I stepped foot on the campus of Virginia Tech but I am from a small college town, nestled in the mountains and my thoughts and prayers go out to you all, the families of those who lost their lives, the students who lost friends and loved ones but who will return to a campus they love so much and who will prevail, the professors who lost coworkers and students but will return to lead those still standing to invent the future.  My prayers are with you all that God will give all Hokies the strength to carry on.  For today, we are all Hokies!

I am a TECH alum, so is my father and son. I have been crying on and off all day. My thoughts and prayers go out to the killed and wounded students and their family members.
Also, as I have watched TV, I have been so proud to hear our students as they have expressed themselves with such grace, caring for each other and support for our University.
Finally, my heart goes out to those in law enforcement and those in the Administration who are also hurting, having to deal with this horrific event.

My tears dont have value in todays material world, but I offer them along with my prayers for all those that have lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy. It reminds us to live each day for God, because one day we will return to Him. Only He could make something good come out of this insanity. May He do so in the months ahead.
