As a college teacher, I cannot imagine what the students, faculty, and administrators are going through. As a mother, I can only begin to imagine what the parents are going through. If love and prayers and support could un-do what has occurred, the nation would heal this for you. As it is, please know that my prayers and heart, and those of many others, are with you all. Today, we are all Hokies. May God bless and comfort you. Melanie Thomas/TRCC

My heart breaks for you.
My first college football game… Was a HOKIE game. I lived in Blacksburg for several years and fell in love with the city, and Virginia Tech. I lived only 2 blocks from campus, My husband was an Alumni, and worked for VT. I spent many days on campus attending events, guest lectures, and walking my dogs at the Duck Pond. I am now a student at Texas A&M University, and often tell my fellow students… “I might be an Aggie now, but I was a HOKIE first"… Now I grieve with you. The AGGIES are grieving with you.

The recent events which have taken place at Virginia Tech are a reminder of the vulnerability of Life, one can only pray for the victims and hope that the world becomes a more pleasant and peaceful place to live. The news has sent shocks waves throughout the academic community worldwide. I am currently a student at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in the UK, and can sincerely say that the incidents have caused visible distress to the students here. May God give the families of the Victims the strength to go one with their lives, and May God us the power to resolve our issues through dialogue and not through the barrel of a gun.
O Lord protect the souls of the ones you have taken, forgive their sins, and let them sit with you in gardens of heaven, bring harmony to this world and forgive the sins of mankind, because you are ever Gracious, and Merciful.

May you find the inner peace and strength to carry on. Embrace the power of prayer to see you through this horrific time in your lives. Don’t concede to the cowards of this world. Let this make you a stronger and more determined individual to recieve your degree. Higher education will open the door to endless opportunities for you. As a survivor of Hurrican Katrina, I promise you too will survive. Love, Nicole who is heartbroken here in N.O.L.A for you.

Pain and sorrow, grief and disbelief, the lives of students and faculty forever ceased. He took lives for no reason, leaving those behind scarred and shaken behond belief. My heart is broken and feels your pain. An innocent young adult sent off to learn the ways of the world, only to learn a hard lesson, that no one is promised tomorrow. Remember love is stronger than hate, so remember those who died, and don’t forget every day is a gift and smile and say, I will make a difference if not for myself but for these exceptional young adults who didn’t have a chance to see today. God Bless you all, and I pray these young people and adult teachers didn’t die in vain.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of these horrific tragedy.

I just want to express my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of everyone involved in this tragedy. It was heartbreaking to hear of so many innocent young people with such promising futures being taken in such a way. Please stick together and be there for one another through this. Just when you think your faith in mankind is broken, people have a way of coming together to help one another. I’m trying to keep this in mind, too! You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

What can I say about something like this? Other than how deeply sorry I feel for the families who had bright hopes for their loved ones who headed off to college to achieve their dreams only to have them shattered by a senseless act of violence and rage.
To the victims R.I.P. I never knew any of you but know that each one of your parents had to be proud.
May God love and keep you all always.

My heart is broken for your loss. It is a tragic time for all of us, even for those who are not with you, those who only watch you in television and those who only read about you in the news. I just find it strange how these things were put together, and how I feel like a piece of my heart has been captivated by people from a totally different country. But despite this I want you to know that my prayers go out to you and my deepest condolences goes to the families of the souls departed. It is unfair when people die when their dreams are still dreams.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families, students, staff and Blacksburg community all the way from New Zealand. We share your shock and grief over this terrible tragedy.
We are also very saddened to hear reports that many of about 200 Korean students are fast leaving campus for fear of ‘retaliation’. We hope that in time they would be warmly invited to return and resume their studies. The gunman was just a very disturbed person who could have been of ANY race.

To all of those that have been taken from us. We will never forget you, and even those we may not know or ever got the chance to meet. As a student body and a world wide community, everyone should stop and take the time to know the people around us. We never know we someone or somthing is going to give or just snap. I hope the familys of all that are now in mourning, and of those who are rcovering, may someday find the peace through friends and family to move on but not forget.

There is a story read at most US Navy retirements called ‘The Watch’. It’s a moving piece and basically lets the retiring member know that they have left the care and responsibility for the days ahead in capable hands. I’m sure that I speak for many here in Charlottesville, VA that at this mournful time that our hearts are deeply sadened as are so many around the world; Take your time Hokie Nation, mourn your loss, heal. Be encouraged, for this too shall pass. And until you’re ready....We have the watch.
