Before we go to rest we commit ourselves to thy care, O God our Father, beseeching Thee to keep alive thy grace in our hearts. Watch Thou, oh heavenly Father, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give thine angels charge over those who sleep. Tend those who are sick, rest those who are weary, soothe those who suffer, pity those in affliction; be near and bless those who are dying, and keep under thy holy care those who are dear to us. Amen.

Dear Virginia Tech Students and Family Members,

In times like this, I look to my faith to sustain me. There are not words to express my feelings. I, thus, offer this:

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.’

~ Matthew 5:3-8

My God Bless and watch over you.

People say that everything happens for a reason. We are true believers in this and believe that God has a master plan for everyone that may not always seem clear. Even though it may seem difficult to not question His plan at times like this, know that your loved ones are with Him and that He is watching down on all of you. Take this horrible tragedy and find a way to use it as strength to move forward from this day. Stay strong in your faith and know that the entire nation is praying for each and every one of you. God will never make you bear more than He knows you can handle. Each and everyone of you are in our thoughts and prayers always.

“They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 7:16, 17).

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in fields of green grass
and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
He gives me new strength.
He guides me in the right paths,
as he has promised.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, Lord,
for you are with me.
Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me.

You prepare a banquet for me,
where all my enemies can see me;
you welcome me as an honored guest
and fill my cup to the brim.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;
and your house will be my home as long as I live.

Everybody I know is thinking of you and grieving with you.  Stay strong and don’t let this horrible tragedy define you, except that it makes you stronger and more caring for each other.

Dear Class of 2007 graduate,
Although I will be attending my own graduation ceremony here on the west coast next month, my spirit will be with you at yours.  My heart goes out especially to you because you not only lost your friends and classmates, but you were also robbed of the joy of your graduation.  In honor and respect of your mourning, I’ve cancelled my graduation party.
